A thin LED BLU device structure incorporating side‐emitting LEDs distributed in a two‐dimensional array across the BLU and embedded in a multi‐layer printed and integrated light‐guide is presented. Measured results from a 40 “design based on this technology platform, produces an efficient and low‐cost BLU.
