Novel wide‐view circular polarizers for VA‐LCDs have been developed. In our new designs, no sophisticated retarders such as biaxial AB plates (n x >n z >n y ) are required. Alternatively, negative and positive AC plates (n x n y >n z respectively) are employed to suppress the off‐axis light leakages. Three promising configurations will be discussed.
