Backlight local dimming technique can improve the static contrast and reduce power consumption of LCDs significantly. Several backlight local dimming systems have been reported in previous literatures. However, there is still no comprehensive description about the evaluation of various backlight local dimming systems. This paper tries to make a guideline for evaluating contrast, power consumption and image quality of backlight local dimming system.
