In this paper, we demonstrate a fast switching electro‐optical cell based on a room‐temperature blue phase liquid crystal (BPLC) using in‐plane‐switching (IPS) cells. The effect of IPS cell structure on the electro‐optical property of the BPLC is investigated by varying the cell gap, line space and electrode width of IPS cells. Fast switching time, low switching voltage and large field‐induced birefringence are achieved for the BPLC with an optimized cell configuration.
