A monolithic functional light guide is characterized with seven horizontal recessed V‐grooves on the back surface in order to realize a block‐wised scanning backlight for field‐sequential color LCD. Each V‐groove functions as semi partition between the consecutive blocks and its height controls the crosstalk between the blocks. To reduce the dispersion and enhance the luminance, the light guide is characterized with micro prism arrays on the light injection surface, the back surface, and front surface. Finally the monolith is combined with a single TIR prism film to direct the enhanced light toward the surface normal on each block.
