The ‘effective’ (‘perceived’) resolution of color matrix displays can be improved with alternative subpixel layouts and subpixel rendering algorithms. However, this often leads to resolution figures that are difficult to understand and to compare for individual displays. This paper shows how to improve on this, and presents subjective experiments that compare various layouts.
