Electrowetting can be utilised to provide the pixel engine for an information display. By contracting a colored oil film electrically a high efficiency optical switch is obtained. In addition to the attractive optical properties, the principle exhibits a video‐rate response speed (<10 ms) and can be used to make high brightness color displays [1]. In recent times more attention has been focussed on manufacturing strategies related to launch of initial products. It is becoming increasingly clear that while the technology indeed offers disruptive front‐of‐screen performance the manufacturing of these displays can be non‐disruptive, leveraging up existing low‐end LCD infrastructure.
