We propose a novel grating alignment featuring that liquid crystal (LC) molecules align orthogonally to grooves when they shape in a specific geometries coated with polyimide films. This paper discusses the alignment characteristics and shows the excellent performance for generating microscopic multi‐domain structures. This grating structure demonstrates a successful application to LCDs.
