We propose an optical configuration of transflective liquid crystal display (LCD), which can be operated not only as a bistable device but also as a monostable one. By using the parameter space diagram (PSD) method, the memory mode and the dynamic mode are optimized for a reflective type and a transmissive type, respectively. We demonstrate excellent optical performance of our transflective dual mode, such as an excellent dark state and high contrast ratio.
