We developed one‐cell type double‐Sided reflective LCD (DSRL) which is optimized for a mobile environment. DSRL is a reflective LCD for good readability in the outdoor environment and a low power consumption display with no backlight unit. We fabricated 2.2 inch and 15 inch DSRL panels. Although DSRL panel has a low physical resolution, it shows much better visual resolution achievable by using image processing technology. An original image should be downsized to remove aliasing and to minimize color error. Generally, the color reproduction ratio in the reflective mode of a transflective panel is around 5% NTSC. In contrast, the performance of DSRL panel reaches 10% NTSC. In addition, reflection ratio of DSRL exceeds 20%, compared to generally known reflection ratio of 5% in the case of conventional transflective LCD.
