Abstract We have suggested an AC‐PDP with extra pixel assistance structure using a MgO layer made from nano‐powdered paste. This structure needs an own driving waveform at the end of conventional reset period for improvement of address discharge characteristics. It was demonstrated that the separated discharge space was coated by nano‐powdered MgO paste at rear plate for counter(X‐A) discharge between the sustaining and address electrodes. At this discharge, the priming particles can be supplied into the main discharge space. Therefore, address discharge characteristics can be expected to have faster response characteristics than those for the conventional structures of AC‐PDP.
