The new local dimming method and new electrode structure of MFFL were proposed. It was found that long‐gap panel was more appropriate to increase the lamp efficiency. A new method of controlling the number of pulses to achieve partial discharge of the panels and this method was demonstrated. The system efficiency was measured as 20 lm/W.
