Distortion to the angular light distribution of LED within a LED Backlight unit can result in a decline of luminance and color uniformity. Effects of components within a LED package on angular light distribution uniformity were studied in detail by utilizing the ‘LightTools®’, a commercialized software, to derive optimal optical solution for a LED backlight unit.
