Slab waveguides exploiting edge‐injected light enable light‐recycling backlights or provide total internal reflected light to displays that frustrate TIR. High luminous uniformity requires detuning pixel efficiencies, mirroring waveguide edges and increasing waveguide thicknesses to extend ray transits. Methods for retaining high luminous uniformity in thinner waveguides are analyzed.
