When used for the substrate of next‐generation flexible display devices, stainless steel foil with insulating film exhibits better heat resistance and chemical stability than plastic films. The flexibility of stainless steel foil depends on its production process. Hard stainless steel foil without bright annealing exhibits excellent bending resistance. We formed insulating films of organically modified silicate approximately 1.5 μm in thickness on stainless steel foil by the sol‐gel process. The films had an insulating resistance as high as 1E+09 Ωcm 2 . Stainless steel foil coated with these films also showed a good resistance to repeated bending.
