Abstract The techniques of data line multiplexing with integrated gate driver circuits based on the amorphous silicon TFT process are proposed and demonstrated. Our present scheme reduces the number of data lines and only needs half channels of source driver IC without huge multiplexer circuits in peripheral. The reliable gate drivers integrated in panel generate odd and even gate signals sequentially from both sides of display, while the life time of the integrated circuits can be estimated over 100,000 hours. for the polarity inversion, this panel could be operated under column inversion or two dots inversion modes. The feasibility of this method was demonstrated with the 5‐inch WQVGA AMLCD. Since only one data driver IC is needed, its cost of driver ICs and power consumption of data drivers are reduced.
