Abstract Until recently most displays were based on CRT. Since all CRTs have similar color characteristics, RGB data represent colors tuned according to the CRT properties, and thus no processing is required at the display end. The emergence of wide gamut displays changed this situation, since rendering of RGB data on wide gamut displays without suitable processing would result in unnatural colors. In the article we discuss color processing for wide gamut displays, and describe algorithms and methods for gamut mapping and multi‐primary conversion.
