A round backlight comprising an off‐centric light‐guide plate and off‐centric prism with total internal reflection characteristic has been developed for illumination of the automotive instrument. The light‐guide plate has a circular‐shape with off‐centrically designed light extraction microstructures and a prismatic light introduction surface at the circumference arc of the light‐guide plate. The backlight has a thickness of 1 mm and uses a single 0.6 mm‐thin LED.
