Compared to RGB displays, RGBW displays enable higher luminance levels at equal power consumption. One of their drawbacks, however, is their reduced color saturation. In this paper, the trade‐off between luminance and color saturation is evaluated in a perception experiment for several algorithms to map RGB input to RGBW pixel data. It is shown that the optimal mapping algorithm is affected by image content.
