A compensation method that uses uniaxial films is developed for widening the viewing angle of the high transmittance multidomain vertical‐alignment liquid crystal display (MVA‐LCD). Based on this design, the high‐transmittance MVA‐LCD has a complete 80° viewing cone for CR> 100:1. Potential application as a mobile display is emphasized.
