This paper presents an optical film that enhances cosmetic appearance, as well as head‐on brightness, through two‐dimensional, light‐redirecting structures that have variable pitch. The optical film utilizes the analysis of Moiré appearance in spatial frequency space to optimize the arrangement of microstructures to improve the cosmetic appearance of displays. The optical film has an improved light‐collimating microstructure that sends light more effectively from a light guide plate, resulting in higher head‐on brightness. This paper shows the detail of the design procedure, but more importantly, it presents optical measurement results of actual optical film prototypes to confirm performance improvement.
