Based on the dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurement of twist‐mode fluctuation in the same configuration as that of the in‐plane switching (IPS) LCD panels, the anchoring energy of ion‐beam‐irradiated polyimide films was estimated. In spite of non‐contact treatment, the anchoring energy on the ion‐beam‐aligned cell is comparable with that on the rubbing reference cell. With increasing dose of the ion beam (IB) irradiation, we got stronger anchoring energy and lower static light scattering.
