We developed the viewing angle controllable TFT‐LCD which has the same thickness and weight as conventional TFT‐LCD, because it is made of only one LC cell without additional other components. Furthermore, to control more effectively narrow viewing angle, we applied two new methods which are luminance compensation and background character insertion. The viewing angle of this display can be changed from 80° to 170°.
