EASL displays based on the effect of electrically reversible memory in Smectic‐A LC features long term image storage capability and wide viewing angle. The reflective mode of SmA displays (PolyDisplay®) features a paper‐like readability and appearance, whereas their transmissive mode (Vindauge™) offers an outstanding transmission and opens new display application areas via see‐through transparent displays. Electro‐optical performance and approaches for its optimization for reflective and transmissive modes of EASL displays are discussed in this paper.
