Abstract Due to the sample & hold nature of AM‐LCD panels, display systems using these panels will suffer from motion portrayal artifacts. As TV applications require proper motion portrayal, overdrive and impulse driving are both required. This paper describes a scanning and dimming backlight system, which is extended with an Adaptive Dual Pulse Backlight technology to reduce image flicker.
