We have developed a new optical compensation film called “WV‐EA” film for TN‐mode TFT‐LCDs, which gives higher contrast ratio, wider viewing angle characteristics and improved color shift than the predecessors, especially in the horizontal direction. These features of the new WV film were achieved by haze reduction and optimizing optical characteristics of polymerized discotic materials layer and TAC film totally. and these features are suitable for large size and wide aspect ratio LCD monitors and LCD TVs.
