LED backlighting moves on from feasibility studies to LCD TV mass production. OSRAM Opto Semiconductors' latest ThinFilm and ThinGaN® chip platform using the high power Golden DRAGON® ARGUS® LED enables the next step. The unique ARGUS® light mixing optics has been designed to offer excellent uniformity and efficiency levels. Flexible designs will fulfill customer wishes. First option implements competitive RGB solutions compared to existing RGGB or RRGGB approaches. 135 LEDs already fulfill the requirements for 32″ backlights. By using a low number of devices best cost potential can be ensured to OSRAM's customers. Additional benefits coming with lowest field failure rates and reduction of driver complexity. On the other hand a 32″ arrangement using 200 LEDs offers the best in class power consumption of 105W.
