Using an SrCaO protective layer, the discharge can be sustained at both a lower voltage and lower current than that with an MgO protective layer, and a higher luminous efficiency can be obtained at these lower ranges of both voltage and current. When the same sustain pulse voltage was applied, compared with the discharge current waveform of the panel with the MgO protective layer, that of the panel with the SrCaO protective layer showed a larger peak current and shorter time lag of the discharge current. Regarding ion bombardment, the life of SrCaO film remains nearly 80% of that of MgO film.
