High efficacy plasma display panel characteristics are discussed. A high efficacy is obtained, especially for design and driving conditions that govern a fast discharge development. High Xe‐content panels can be operated in addressed condition in this “high efficiency fast discharge mode” at sustain voltages ≥ 200 V. The influence of wall losses is discussed. The increasing loss of charged particles for increasing resolution, when the discharge is contained in a smaller volume, causes increasing discharge voltages. The decrease of the efficacy is however relatively small. For proper designs equally high efficacy and luminance values are obtained for pixel pitches of 1.08 mm and 0.7 mm.
