Recent advancements and future possibilities for in‐plane switching (IPS) TFT‐LCD technologies are reviewed. The viewing angle dependency of early LCD monitors on the market has been suppressed, and the picture quality for TV applications has recently been highly improved. Finally, we discuss the future possibilities of IPS technologies for TV applications.
