Abstract We have developed a turn type color 3‐D (3 Dimensional) display which is classified as a depth sampling system. Several methods were used for the developments. An array of LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) is arranged vertically. When the array of LEDs is moving from side to side, two‐dimensional images are displayed as a result of afterimage effects. We applied this principle to 13 arrays arranged in the depth wise direction to represent 3‐D image displays. As a result, 3‐D image was successfully displayed in real space. In conclusion, we have successfully developed a system using color‐LEDs which is capable of displaying 3‐D color images in real space with wide viewing angles and high brightness.
