Abstract Since a frame and a shadow‐mask are welded together, vibration of the frame excites the shadow‐mask, which causes the discoloration of screen. In this paper, a finite element model is suggested to obtain accurate vibration responses of a frame by imposing appropriate boundary conditions. The natural frequencies and their mode shapes resulted from the finite element analysis are consistent with those of modal experiments. In addition, an optimized 34″ frame designed by finite element analysis is presented and is investigated. The suggested frame shows better vibration response than the one of an initial frame.
