By means of two line‐up experiments we compared the perceived image quality of sets based on different display technologies for various kinds of image material. The results revealed the pros and cons of each of the display technologies on color rendering, sharpness, contrast, motion portrayal and artifact visibility. In general, we can conclude that according to end‐consumers sets based on the new display technologies still have difficulties in beating the high‐quality standard set by CRT sets, especially on color rendering.
