This paper describes low‐power system‐on‐glass (SOG) driver circuit technologies for mobile‐phone LCDs. A parallel digital‐data‐driver architecture, a low‐power 6‐bit DAC architecture based on an R‐DAC with pre‐charge buffer, and a highly efficient DC/DC converter architecture can provide a low‐power (5 mW) QCIF+ SOG‐LCD. A 510‐Kbit SOG‐DRAM for frame‐memory‐integrated LCDs is also introduced as next‐generation SOG‐LCD technology. These driver circuit technologies will drive mobile SOG‐LCD market growth.
