As a new UV LED pumped phosphor for illumination applications, the photo‐luminescence characteristics are studied for (Y, Sr)V(O, S) 4 : Eu 3+ and (Y, Ba)V(O, S) 4 : Eu 3+ . The charge transfer band in the UV region with the maximum at ca. 316 nm has greatly increased in the excitation spectrum, but the charge transfer band hasn't red‐shifted much compared with that in the YVO 4 lattice. Enhanced is the emission at 618 nm, corresponding to the electric dipole 5 D 0 → 7 F 2 transition of Eu 3+ . The relative peak intensities of 5 D 0 → 7 F J do not change much (especially J = 1 and J = 2), which implies the similar point symmetry of Eu 3+ in both host materials, YVO 4 and (Y, A)V(O, S) 4 (A = Sr, Ba).
