A technique for minimizing power consumption of the LED backlight in a color sequential display is proposed. The power consumption is reduced by dimming the LED backlight while the image quality is preserved by retaining the same image fidelity, which is achieved by scaling the LCD transmittance to increase the image brightness and contrast.
