Abstract A new idea of diffusing LED point light source into planar LED backlight is introduced. Reflector and scattering patterns for LED point light sources are designed for higher LED backlight uniformity. The uniformity of 84,24% was obtained from the 45mm×40×1mm edge type backlight with 3 white LEDs by ASAP simulation.
