— A projection display has been developed based on reflective liquid‐crystal light valves fabricated on a crystalline‐silicon active‐matrix array. The light valves utilize the 45° twisted‐nematic LC mode. The optical system is based on dichroic‐mirror color separation, three polarizing beam splitters, and a dichroic color‐combining cube. The display has native SXGA or UXGA resolution with full multisync capability for other formats and provides >1000 ANSI lumens and >300:1 full‐field contrast ratio.
