— Active‐matrix‐electroluminescent (AMEL) displays using ZnS phosphors have demonstrated sufficient luminance, contrast, and stability under high‐frequency drive for commercial applications. Recently, color AMEL displays have been fabricated using either spatial or temporal filtering of the SrS: Ce/ZnS: Mn broad‐band emission. The SrS: Ce/ZnS: Mn broad‐band phosphor shows improved spectral balance under AMEL drive conditions. Higher‐efficiency blue emission remains the primary goal for achieving lower power in both active‐ and passive‐matrix color EL displays.
