— The principle and the performance of a novel multi‐nozzle, ink‐on‐demand printer based on the electro‐osmotic dynamics of solvent ink are presented. In the printer, we utilize ink volume modulation and ink convergence caused by the electrokinetic movement of the ink. The printer produces Japanese characters printed on ordinary paper using an interdigital line‐scan technique. Furthermore, the printer features continuous‐tone picture printing with pulse‐width‐modulated recording pulses. A monochrome TV test‐pattern picture (printing resolution of 4 lines/mm; printing speed of 1/30 s/line) printed using an experimental multiplex electro‐osmotic printer is also shown.
