— Color MicroDisplays are based on conventionally fabricated CMOS active substrates laminated with liquid crystal materials. Color is generated by diffraction at pixel gratings, and intensity is modulated by voltages applied to the fixed pixel gratings to switch the liquid crystal material. The Color MicroDisplays were tested using ferroelectric materials in the deformed‐helix configuration for high frame‐rates, nematic materials in ECB configurations, and polymer dispersed materials for high‐brightness applications.
