— Vacuum microelectronics deals with several well‐established, but non‐overlapping, scientific and technical areas. It is not a new science, but is an emerging hybrid of science and technology, which, unfortunately, has no established home. It is composed of technologies which have ignored, rather than collaborated, with each other. In this sense, vacuum microelectronics is a new entity, and the purpose of this paper is to describe our ideas on how the display community can deal with it.
