— The electrochromism of a plasma‐polymerized Yb‐diphthalocyanine (pp‐YbPc 2 ) film, which can also be iodized by a plasma method, is described. Iodine in the film is immobilized. The prepared film exhibits a red color with the formation of a charge‐transfer complex. In an electro‐chromic cell, the film exhibits a reversible multicoloration of red, green, and blue by applying, respectively, positive, null, and negative potentials with respect to an Ag/AgCl reference electrode. The green‐red coloration occurs without injection of counter‐ions. Charges for the green‐red coloration are transferred between immobilized iodine and Yb‐diphthalocyanine. Since ion injection, which is a rate‐determining step of coloration, does not occur, the green‐red coloration response is faster than that of the uniodized film.
