— An electrically controlled birefringence (ECB) LCD often has the limitation of a narrow viewing angle. To solve this problem, a double‐layer ECB (D‐ECB) LCD with a wide viewing‐angle cone is proposed. In this device, each layer compensates the variation of retardation of the other over a wide range of viewing angles.
