Phosphor screen granularity has been characterised using a 12 bit cooled CCD camera to acquire images from a flat field raster. Autocorrelation functions and noise power spectra were obtained by FFT analysis of the image datasets. Correlations with perceived or subjective “grain” and the effects of variable e‐beam spot size on the noise are discussed with specific application to film scanning CRTs.
