The hand‐held electronic product field includes most telecommunication, palm computing and navigation products, making this a large market for smaller displays (typically from 1″ to 4″ diagonal). Historically, this market has demanded displays with low power and cost, rather than high image quality, as evidenced by the historical dominance of monochrome TN and STN displays. However, within these constraints there is a strong trend toward larger displays capable of higher information content, including a migration toward low power color solutions.
