A backlighting unit for a monitor application, which provides ultra‐high luminance with uniform luminance distribution, has been developed. Design parameters of the backlighting unit such as the diameter of CFLS, the pitch of CFLS, and the distance between diffusing plate and a bottom reflector, the distance between the CFL and the bottom reflector, are optimized in order to obtain ultra‐high luminance without any light shielding curtain.
