The addition of single‐layer or multi‐layer optical compensation films in film‐compensated LCD's lowers the optical ordering and, in general changes symmetrical viewing zones to asymmetrical viewing zones. To preserve the symmetrical viewing properties, an optically identical set of films must be placed on both the entrance and exit substrates. We demonstrate this loss and preservation of symmetrical viewing angle using both computation results and geometrical arguments.
