This paper presents a discussion of functions incorporated into a digital AMLCD monitor and how it may be implemented with VLSI circuits. Two core features for a digital AMLCD monitor are the digital interface and a method of scaling input resolution to match the panel. The PanelLink® interface provides a widely accepted method of sending and receiving digital data between panel, computer, and interface ICs. The design and performance of an example chip with scaling, digital interface, power management, and on‐screen‐display are described.
