A new field sequential full‐color display composed of an optical compensated birefringent (OCB) LCD and a multicolored organic electro luminescent device (OEL) is proposed. In this display system, each merits of the LC device with high resolution capability and the OEL device with high‐speed response are combined. We fabricated a trial panel and confirmed its promising characteristics as a field sequential full‐color display in the next generation. Furthermore we suggest an advanced driving method. In this system, certain areas of stripe R, G or B phosphors are flashed sequentially by synchronizing with addressing LCD. This system can make the load of TFT decrease and get high intensity.
